San Jose Pedestrian Struck and Killed During Police Chase

A 59-year-old pedestrian was killed Thursday evening after being crushed between two cars. The accident occurred during a police chase, when a car driven by Dario Dwayne Taylor, 23, struck a parked car, pushing it forward into another.

San Jose police say the fatal chase began when a CHP officer attempted to stop a burgundy 1999 Volkswagen Passat near North 33rd Street and McKee Road shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Thursday.

The Passat fled south on North 33rd Street and struck a Honda CR-V parked on the south curb between Alum Rock and Shortridge avenues, Officer Jose Garcia said.

The Honda was pushed forward, causing it to strike a parked Volkswagen Golf in front of it and pinning a 59-year-old San Jose man who was standing between the cars.

A 31-year-old San Jose woman standing on the sidewalk with her 11-year-old son was also struck by the cars, receiving moderate injuries. The boy was not hurt.

The Passat struck two more parked cars and a northbound 2008 Chrysler 300 before bursting into flames and coming to a stop. Milpitas Patch, 18 May 2012.

The Passat’s driver was arrested after being treated at Regional Medical Center in San Jose. It is not clear why he was fleeing from police.
