Victim of South East End High School Attack Dies After Stabbing

Grief counselors are meeting with students at South East End High School after a stabbing that left one student dead and three other victims injured. The incident occurred last Friday during lunch break at South East End High School after an altercation between the attacker, Abraham Lopez, and one of the victims, Cindi Santana, escalated. Santana had recently broken up with Lopez.

[It] began with Lopez arguing with [Santanta] and choking her in a courtyard away from classrooms, police said.

“The dean tried to intervene and during that the dean realized the male had a knife and was attacking the female student,” Zipperman told KABC-TV earlier Friday.

Several students told KABC that the attacker was the former boyfriend of the female student.

Five people — the three stabbing victims, the suspect and a campus police officer who hurt his back in the scuffle — were taken to area hospitals after the attack reported minutes before 11 a.m., Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Matt Levesque said. CBS News, October 1, 2011.

Late that night, the hospital was locked down as a bomb squad searched a vehicle owned by Ms. Santana. Police believed that explosives may have been planted by the suspect.

Ms. Santana died late Friday night as a result of her injuries. Lopez is in custody. According to KTLA, Lopez was arrested last week and posted bail within two days. Officials are not releasing information on that arrest or confirming whether it was related to this attack.

A Facebook group has been created in memory of Cindi Santana. Information on the page indicates that the family will be hosting a fundraiser to raise funeral costs on October 4th at 5:00 pm. Please visit the page for location and other information.
