SDG&E settles for $6.4 million

San Diego Gas & Electric Co. will pay the federal government $6.4 million to settle a claim resulting from the 2007 Witch Creek fires that destroyed 1,3o0 homes and killed two people. An investigation found that power lines owned by the company were partially responsible for three major fires that burned 69 square miles east of San Diego. The settlement will cover all costs related to the fire. The company has paid $1.55 billion in claims so far.  San Diego Union-Tribune, 17 Sep 2012.
