A former California middle school coach has been charged with molestation of two young girls.
Andre Edwards, 52, entered his plea Friday in San Mateo County Superior Court to charges that stem from accusations made nearly a decade apart by two girls, District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe said. Edwards is out of custody on $200,000 bail and told a reporter that the accusations are lies.
One of the charges originates from a 2001 incident in which a girl, then 13, said he shoved his hand down her pants and fondled her.
The second accusation was made by a girl who said he groped her breasts and buttocks on Nov. 14, 2010.
Both girls claimed the episodes happened at the school where Edwards worked from September 1987 until February 2011, when he retired.
Edwards claims both girls are lying and has pleaded not guilty. If convicted, the maximum sentence is 10 years.
